Sparty the Spartan is Michigan State University’s fearless and loveable mascot, a figure known throughout the state of Michigan and recognized across the nation as well. Sparty is the heart of Michigan State, forever supporting its teams, bringing smiles to young and old and continually uplifting all who meet him. Sparty is big and strong, garnering the honor of being voted “Buffest Mascot” by Muscle and Fitness Magazine. Sparty is also a three time national champion mascot competing at the Universal Cheer Association Nationals Competition in Orlando, Florida. He also participates in events across the country including the NCAA Hall of Champions: Mascot Mania Despite his size, strength and many accomplishments, Sparty is always available to please any of Michigan State’s fans with a hug or friendly high-five.
You can find Sparty at almost any event taking place on campus and he appears in quite a few places beyond the friendly confines of East Lansing. He does weddings, parties, bar mitzvah’s, parades, alumni functions, charity events, public showings, commercials and all major sporting events. Sparty can help make just about any event a fun and exciting time.

 
Sparty Appearance Requests

Sparty is a very popular mascot and does events year round. If you would like Sparty to appear at your event, please fill out a Sparty Request Form as completely as possible. The sooner you send in your request, the better chance Sparty will be able to appear at your event. There is no limit as to how early you may send in a request; however Sparty must have at least two weeks notice for all event requests. Event requests submitted less than two weeks prior to an event will not be accepted!

 
 

Sparty Escorts

 

Sparty is one active guy! He’s always on the go and always doing crazy things at weddings, parties and sports events. However he needs an extra set of hands and eyes wherever he goes. This is where the escorts come in. Sparty Escorts are current MSU students who go to every event Sparty attends. They help him drive places across campus and get to hang out with him during the event. These escorts attend bi-weekly meetings and can put as much time as they can or want to into the program. Sparty Tryouts

Every late January or early February tryouts are held to choose someone to portray Sparty. Many apply but few are chosen. To apply you must be a current MSU student in good health and between 5’10” and 6’2”. Tryouts are a multi-step process to find out more please contact the Student Alumni Foundation at (517) 355 4458.

Sparty and Jones Soda

The Student Alumni Foundation and Jones Soda have introduced a collector's edition of Sparty bottles. The photos on these bottles included six different shots of Sparty on campus. The series consisted of the Green Apple and Cream Soda Jones Soda flavors to represent MSU green and white.
