Q: What exactly does Sparty do?
A: Sparty does everything. Sparty has been almost everywhere and done almost everything. MSU's beloved mascot appears at over 600 events per year. The most common events that Sparty participates in are: wedding receptions, birthday parties, alumni events, tailgates, bar-mitzvahs, parades, golf outings, fundraisers, charity events, retirement parties, fairs, commercials, and of course all major MSU sporting events.
Q: How much does it cost to have Sparty appear at my event?
A: Sparty has different rates depending on your type of event. Costs will vary due to distance from campus, whether the event is private or for a charitable organization, and depending on whether or not your event falls on a major holiday.
Q: If I want Sparty at my event, how early should I book him?
A: Sparty is very active and busy guy. In order to ensure that Sparty will be able to attend your event, it is required that you place an event request at least two weeks in advance, but the earlier the better!
Q: How long can Sparty stay at my event?
A: Because Sparty is so busy, he can only stay at events for up to an hour. If you would like Sparty to stay longer, special arrangements must be made.
Q: What does Sparty wear?
A: At most events Sparty wears his traditional green armor, but at special events such as a wedding reception Sparty will put on his special tuxedo. If you would like Sparty to wear something different to accentuate your event, you must make special arrangements.
Q: What should I do if I want to be Sparty?
A: A great way to get started is to become involved in the Sparty Escort Program. Tryouts are then held each year to determine who will don the armor in the future. There is a height requirement of 5'10"- 6'2" for all applicants. Any further questions contact Sparty Mascot Program Directors.
Q: How can I become involved in the Sparty Escort Program?
A: First, you must be a full-time MSU student. You also must fill out a Sparty Escort Application. Sparty Escorts have bi-weekly meetings in the SAF office. Any further questions contact please contact Sparty Mascot Program Directors.
